Junior Great Books

What is Junior Great Books?

Junior Great Books (JGB) is a reading enrichment program brought to Windsor by the PTA and parent volunteers that is open to 1st-5th graders.

Children meet in informal groups with discussion leaders/parent volunteers to read and discuss selected short stories (including fairytales and folktales from around the globe). Students are encouraged to use critical thinking and learn about other cultures through their reading.

This program runs for 8-weeks starting in January and ending in March; it is held during the lunch recess. There is a small materials fee with registration and each student will need a JGB book to participate*.

*Please note: Books for JGB program cannot be purchased at a bookstore.  However, there are a VERY LIMITED number of Windsor JGB copies available to loan on a first come, first served basis.

How do I sign my child up for Junior Great Books?

DEADLINE: Please enroll your child by Friday, November 15th, 2019. Return the completed PAPER FORM and a check for $22 (payable to Windsor PTA) to the main office. Only paper forms are being accepted this year (sorry no online registration).

Registration forms were sent home the first week of November. Please use one form per student (download & print a copy here) and return with your check; also note “JGB” and your child’s name on the Memo/For line. ) to the Windsor main office by the deadline.

Can I volunteer to lead or co-lead a group?

YES, please do!! We need volunteers. The program cannot run without discussion leaders. It’s a great way to get involved, and absolutely no experience is necessary! We will give you all the information you need!  Return the paper form to sign yourself up or email the JGB committee!

Can I donate my old Junior Great Books book?

YES!  If you had a 1st-5th grader last year who was in JGB and you would like to pass the book along we would love to add it as a loaner copy! Please bring your JGB donation into the Windsor school office. Thank you in advance!
