Cultural Arts

Windsor PTA’s Cultural Arts Committee is dedicated to bringing a wide variety of music, art, drama, creative writing, photography, and dance to our Windsor students. Cultural arts are tools that help develop the mind and body, refine feelings and thoughts, and reflect and represent our customs and values.

In the past, the PTA’s Cultural Arts Committee has organized author visits. This year, we will welcome local author and illustrator Cozbi A. Cabrera to Windsor. Cozbi received a BFA from Parsons School of Design. She has won Caldecott and Coretta Scott King honors for her book ‘Me & Mama.’ Additionally, her handmade cloth dolls have garnered the attention of collectors around the world.

Cozbi will join us in-person at Windsor in December 2023 for an all-school assembly. She will be doing two presentations: one for K-2nd graders and another for 3rd-5th graders. You can learn more about Cozbi at https://theauthorvillage.com/presenters/cozbi-a-cabrera/

The Cultural Arts Committee is also dedicated to bringing a wide variety of cultural performances to our students. Last year, during MC Week, we had Chicago-based Ayodele Drum & Dance perform West African music and dances for our students and staff.

This year, we will kick off our Multicultural Week festivities with an all-school assembly performed by Aloha Chicago! They will be taking our Windsor students and staff on a South Pacific Island adventure, as our students and staff experience the true culture of Polynesia. Aloha Chicago will be performing beautiful dances from Hawaii, exciting drum dances from Ori Tahiti, and fascinating Maori dances from New Zealand. Students and staff will get to participate and learn all of these dances.
